In my company, we have used contract employees as a pipe line for talent.  When the opportunity to place a contractor into a regular full time slot occurs, the contractor does have to go through the competitive process. However, they are more likely to be selected because there has been a vetting of their work.

What other contractor approaches might be used to recruit employees?
