Spectacles in Asia
To date, we have covered several different definitions of “spectacle.” Guy Debord, for instance, argues that spectacle is a social relation among people mediated by images. Gennifer Weisenfeld (Week 5), however, claims that spectacle is what imbues a viewing experience with emotion. Using direct reference to the course readings and specific examples from the audio-visual materials, compare and contrast at least two different definitions of spectacle.
