Upon completion of SOC 101, successful students will be able to:

1. Apply sociological reasoning to an      analysis of contemporary society and their place in it
2. Identify and use basic sociological concepts,      theories and terminology
3. Explain the role of cultural and      structural forces in the lives of people and the shaping of society and      social interaction
4. Describe the process involved in acquiring      culture, social identity and the self
5. Describe the structure of the U.S. class      system and how social class affects individual lives
6. Describe and analyze the racial-ethnic      structure of the U.S. and contemporary social events
7. Explain how gender and sexual orientation      are aspects of both social structure and individual identity
