Part 1: Students will submit 2-3 social problems that they wish to study for part 2 (critical assignment). For each social problem topic, students must: (1) describe the problem, (2) discuss why it is of interest to them, and (3) address why it is important to study it from a sociological perspective. Students should submit a 2 page APA formatted (not including title and reference pages) proposal. Instructors will then work with students to finalize 1 topic to move forward with.

Criteria to consider include:

• Each question falls within the scope of this class
• Each question can be answered empirically through data collection
• Each question examines the relationship between two or more variables
