Module 1 Quiz: Select one theorist from either the classical or contemporary foundations of 

sociological theory (Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Du Bois, Mills, Merton, Habermas, Foucault, or 

Bourdieu). Then, in 400-500 words:

1.   Give an overview of their main theoretical contributions (5 points)

2.   Then, apply their theory (or part of their theory) to a current event that is relevant to you.

For example, I could use Bourdieu’s concept cultural capital to explore how my own educational 

background affords me a certain degree of social status and power within the classroom setting. 

Alternative, I could use Marx’s theory to examine the current debate surrounding equal pay in 

US professional soccer organizations.
