HUM 102 Module Six Short Answer Assignment Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
Understanding diverse perspectives is beneficial in further understanding the humanities. Diverse perspectives are viewpoints that are influenced by a person’s or group’s background and identity as well as sociocultural and socioeconomic factors. They include things such as social status, gender, economic status, and cultural heritage. In this assignment, you will have a chance to analyze a new creative work and explore how diverse perspectives influence the artist’s self-concept as well as how creative works of the humanities might be perceived differently by different groups of people.
Directions
In this short answer assignment, you will analyze a creative work (literary or visual). It can be the same one you used for your discussion, or you may select a new one. You can select one on your own or use one included in the module guide or learning resources. Respond in a couple of sentences to a paragraph for each rubric criterion.
Specifically, you must address the following:
- Describe the diverse perspectives that are represented in the work.
- Be sure to cite the work according to APA citation guidelines.
- Describe how your self-concept influences your perspective of the work.
- How might certain aspects of your identity, including sociocultural factors, influence the way you perceive the work?
- Describe how different groups of people might interpret the creative work based on specific sociocultural and/or socioeconomic factors.
- For example, how might different generations perceive it?
- How might a culture different from the one represented perceive it?
What to Submit
Submit your short answer assignment as a three- to four-paragraph (no more than a page) Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. You must cite your chosen creative work. If other sources are used, follow APA citation guidelines when citing sources both throughout and at the end of your paper.
Alternatively, Brightspace allows the use of video notes. You may optionally use the Video Note tool to complete this assignment so long as you refer to your sources verbally throughout your video and submit a separate references page. If you need assistance using Video Note, please refer to the resources in the Start Here module.
