There are two options for this week’s Discussion. Choose Option 1 if you are interested in pursuing employment after graduating rather than pursuing a graduate degree. If you choose this option, you will complete the initial prompt for Discussion 1 and the response prompt for Discussion 2.
Choose Option 2 if you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree after graduating from this program. If you choose this option, you will complete the initial prompt for Discussion 2 and the response prompt for Discussion 1.
The reason that you are responding to classmates in a different Discussion from your initial prompt is to give you exposure to the topic.
As you may remember from Week 1, a bachelor’s degree in psychology is versatile and applicable to a wide variety of careers. Graduates go on to pursue fulfilling careers in human services, sales and marketing, healthcare, criminal justice, education, and many other fields. At this point in your program, you may have a particular job in mind. If so, it is important to confirm that the job duties

align with your interests and that a bachelor’s degree in psychology qualifies you for the job. If you do not have a particular job in mind, do not worry, now is the time to begin exploring possible career paths to see what piques your interest.
In this Discussion, you will identify a job posting of interest to you that can be obtained with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. You will also view the interactive media, “Interviewing for a Psychology Job,” which will guide you through how to best present yourself during a job interview. Then, you will consider how you would apply what you learned to a future job interview.

You will also view the interactive media, “Interviewing for a Psychology Job,” which will guide you through how to best present yourself during a job interview. Go to the Psychology Career Exploration Toolkit. Reflect on which specialty area of psychology interests you the most and how to pursue a career in that area. Also, consider the career experiences of the psychology professionals featured in the “Personal Career Stories” tab and how they used their degrees to achieve their career goals.
Go to the Psychology Career Hub. Use the job search resources to search for a psychology job posting of interest to you. Think about why the job interests you and its pros in cons. Consider variables such as salary, geographic location, work hours, etc. Important Note: Be sure that your job opening requires a bachelor’s degree in psychology; and does not require an advanced degree, such as a master’s or doctorate (PhD) degree (e.g., avoid discussing a job that requires an advanced degree, such as a clinical psychologist or a school psychologist). If you are unsure if the job posting you found is acceptable, please email your Instructor to confirm.

TO PREPARE:
Go the Additional Resources section in the Psychology Career Hub and review the resources on preparing for interviews. In addition, read the article, “Kisses of Death in the Graduate School Application Process.” Consider how the kisses of death categories might also apply to interviewing for a psychology job. With the kisses of death in mind, complete the "Interviewing for a Psychology Job" simulation found in this Week's Learning Resources. Identify two key takeaways that you learned from the simulation and think about how you would apply each to an interview for the job posting you identified.
Identify the Discussion option you chose in the first line of your initial post. Paste the URL webpage link for the specific job opening you found so that your Instructor and classmates can review it. Important Note: Be sure that your job opening requires a bachelor’s degree in psychology; and does not require an advanced degree, such as master’s or doctorate (PhD) degree (e.g., avoid discussing a job that requires an advanced degree, such as a clinical psychologist or a school psychologist). If you are unsure if the job posting you found is acceptable, please email your Instructor to confirm. Explain why the job interests you. Explain the pros and cons of this job as they relate to your lifestyle. Consider variables such as salary, geographic location, work hours, etc. Describe two key takeaways that you learned from participating in the interview simulation activity. Explain how you would apply each to an interview for the job posting you identified.
Support your initial post with evidence from at least one Learning Resource. You may state your opinion and/or provide personal examples; however, you must also back up your assertions with evidence, including in-text citation(s) and reference(s) in APA style.
Note: For this Discussion, you are required to complete your initial post before you will be able to view and respond to your colleagues' postings. Begin by clicking on the Reply button to complete your initial post. Remember, once you click on Post Reply, you cannot delete or edit your own posts and you cannot post anonymously. Please check your post carefully before clicking on Post Reply!

A subset of students who graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology go on to graduate school. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a therapist or counselor, you will need further education beyond a bachelor’s degree. Fortunately, there are many graduate programs to choose from and it is important to spend some time determining which ones might be the right fit for you. Keep in mind that you are not limited to exploring only Walden’s graduate programs; rather, you are encouraged to explore programs across many different universities. Even this early in your undergraduate program, exploring graduate study options now can help you make informed decisions about your academic and career path.
In this Discussion, you will identify a graduate program in a field you are interested in potentially pursuing (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling psychology, developmental psychology, law school, business school, social work, etc.). You will also consider the admissions requirements of the program as well as its pros and cons. Finally, you will view the interactive media, “Interviewing for Graduate School,” which will guide you through how to best present yourself during an interview for graduate school. Then, you will consider how you would apply what you learned to a future interview.
