Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate understanding and application of cultural influences on health practices. This will be achieved by creating a staff education poster that enhances healthcare providers' awareness of how cultural beliefs, values, traditions, and practices impact health interactions within the healthcare system.

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

· CO 3: Describe culturally competent nursing care across the lifespan. (PO 4) 

· CO 4: Perform a culturally competent nursing assessment. (POs 4, 7)  

Due Date

Students must complete the Week 4 Staff Education assignment and submit it to the Dropbox by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. MT.  

Late Assignment Policy

Students are expected to submit assignments by the time they are due. Assignments submitted after the due date and time will receive a deduction as noted in the rubric below. 

Total Points Possible

This assignment is worth 175 points.

3. Select a cultural group whose traditional cultural practices can influence health. You are encouraged to focus on a culture you care for in your nursing practice or one you would like to learn more about. Some examples of cultures include, but are not limited to: 

a. African Americans 

b. Amish 

c. Chinese 

d. Greek 

e. Native American 

4. Research the traditions and practices of your selected cultural group and consider how they may impact health.

a. Use at least one scholarly source from outside the lesson. 

b. Be sure the information on the poster is grounded in your research and not solely based on your experiences, opinions, or stereotypes.

5. Use the template to create a staff education poster that enhances healthcare providers' understanding of how cultural beliefs, values, traditions, and practices impact health.

a. Use short bullet points. This document is meant to be concise and easy to read. It should not read like a paper. 

6. When complete, save and close the completed template. Click the Submit button at the top of this page to upload your completed assignment. 

7. Correctly cite and reference ideas and information from scholarly literature. Sources should be no more than five years old unless they are historical references. 

8. Follow grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation rules consistent with formal, professional writing.  

9. Abide by Chamberlain University’s academic integrity policy.  

Include the following sections (detailed criteria listed below and in the grading rubric). Answer the questions under each section with explanation and detail.

Section 1: Cultural Overview and Health Belief System 

1. Describe the selected culture in one sentence. 

2. Provide a relevant image reflecting the selected culture in the appropriate area of the template. 

3. List the one most common health belief system in your selected culture as a bullet point. 

· Refer to the lesson for the three common types of health belief systems. 

4. List at least one key custom practiced within the identified health belief system. 

Section 2: Traditional Healing Systems and Health Practices 

1. List the most common healing systems practiced within your selected culture as a bullet point. 

· Refer to the lesson for common types of healing systems. 

2. List at least one dietary or supplement-related health practice as a bullet point. 

3. List at least one bullet point describing the actual or potential impact on health from the identified health practices. 

Section 3: Nursing Considerations

1. Synthesize the information from the poster.

2. Create at least two bullet points describing nursing considerations related to the care of clients within the selected cultural group.

3. Format each bullet as a useful directive for nurses reading the poster. 

Section 4: Format

1. Includes at least one scholarly source from outside of the lesson. 

2. Includes in-text citations on the poster. 

3. Submits a reference list where identified on the template. 

4. The poster is clear, organized, professional, and visually appealing.
