RACE AND ETHNICITY Uptown Chicago is known for its diversity, with a mix of various racial and ethnic groups. Over the years, Uptown has become increasingly diverse, with significant populations of African Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans.

1.White Americans: Residents of European descent, including those from historical immigrant communities as well as more recent arrivals.

2.African Americans: Uptown has a significant African American population, which may be observed in various neighborhoods and along commercial corridors.

3.Latinos/Hispanic Americans: There is a growing presence of Latinos in Uptown, particularly along areas like the Wilson and Lawrence corridors, where businesses catering to the Latino community can often be found.

4.Asian Americans: Uptown also has a notable Asian American population, including individuals of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Filipino descent, among others.

5.Other ethnic groups: Uptown is also home to smaller communities representing various ethnic backgrounds, including Middle Eastern, South Asian, and others.

HEALTH STATUS

• One would observe several healthcare facilities, including clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies, indicating relatively good access to healthcare services for residents. There are notable facilities which includes Weiss Memorial Hospital, Thorek Memorial Hospital, and Swedish Hospital.

Uptown stands as a dynamic neighborhood with a distinctive past, having fulfilled various roles throughout its history. It has served as a favored destination for the city's affluent, offering shopping, entertainment, and dining experiences.

Uptown hosts various community events throughout the year, including street festivals, farmers markets, and cultural celebrations, which bring residents together and showcase the neighborhood’s diversity.

FOOD

The heart of uptown is the intersection of West Lawrence Avenue and North Broadway where amazing places to eat is within a block or two. Uptown Chicago boasts a haven for those passionate about food. Although the region has gained recognition for its abundant selection of Asian eateries, you'll encounter restaurants that embody a diverse array of cultures spanning the globe. With its vibrant tapestry of cultures and culinary traditions, this neighborhood showcases an extensive array of dining establishments.

RELIGION • Christian Denominations: Uptown Chicago has

a variety of Christian churches representing different denominations, including but not limited to: Catholic churches (e.g., St. Thomas of Canterbury, St. Gregory the Great Parish), Protestant churches (e.g., Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian), Orthodox churches (e.g., Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox)

• Jewish Community: Uptown has historically been home to a Jewish population, and there are synagogues or Jewish community centers in the area (e.g., Agudas Achim Northshore congregation).

• Islamic Centers: Given the cultural diversity of Uptown, mosques or Islamic centers serve the Muslim community (e.g., Masjid Al-Faatir, Islamic Community Center of Illinois).

• Hindu Temples: There are Hindu temples or cultural centers that serve the Hindu community (e.g., Vishnu Mandir, Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago).

POLITICS • Uptown has supported the Democratic Party in the

past two presidential elections. In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton received 23,815 votes, 85.6% over Republican Donald Trump’s 2,481 votes, or 8.9%. In 2020, Democrat Joe Biden won 27,009 votes, 88.0%, and Trump received 3,154 votes, 10.3%.
