Scholarship Essay

The essays theme is " What does it mean to be an American?"  I don't want the typical essay that everyone else will write. I want to focus on the negative concept to bring awareness to the African American or minority communities in America.  Also, I would like to include how some Americans become silent to things like police brutality, famine, natural disasters, and poverty in America but when it happens in other countries, Americans feel the need to assist them instead of taking care of the needs in America. Lastly, will I be treated as an American being that I am an African American female? I'm asking for 2 pages.
