Safety and Accident Prevention

Of the cost reduction strategies for workers' compensation mentioned in the required readings, which one do you think would work best in an industry you work in or an industry you are interested in working in? Why do you think this method is the best for your chosen industry?

IN my current company the cost reduction strategy that will work the best is making safety part of the culture. We already use the general strategies of staying in touch and we have a return to work program.  We even have a relationship with the medical providers to return to work if at all possible. What we do not have is a safety culture.  We were acquired 3 years ago and the previous company did not have a safety culture. most of the safety requirements were contracted out (IIPP, H.E.C.P, etc) were created by an outside company that did not understand the complexities of the business. They went several years with safety being a dual role with the HR department. 

The safety culture was non-existant and it was a get it done any way you can as fast as you can. I have been working on the culture for the past 2 years,  once I can get the culture changed i am sure the safety record will improve.
