The topic that I chose to write about in this essay is nuclear waist. Nuclear waist, is an important environmental issue for many reasons. Nuclear waste presents a negative externality to society because it causes cancer through harmful radiation, pollutes groundwater and soil, and remains present in our environment for thousands of years. 20 trillion tons of nuclear waste is generated in the United States each year. This paper will use a Benefit-Cost framework to analyze and compare the environmental and economic benefits of nuclear energy generation with the environmental and economic costs of nuclear waste disposal.
