Growing up, there were two particular remedies my mom incorporated into my life. I remember being a young kid riding in the back of the car, feeling car sick, and my mom would always give me a peppermint mint or a piece of gum to chew on to help with my nausea. Peppermint is known to have digestive and anti-nausea qualities by relaxing the GI tract. An analysis of research in the "Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology" from 2014 states that peppermint oil can help alleviate the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, including nausea. Another study indicated that patients who had surgery experienced less postoperative nausea when using peppermint aromatherapy (McKay & Blumberg, 2006).

My mom was also big on using ginger for nausea as well. She suffers from migraines which trigger nausea and vomiting. When this happens, she heavily relies on ginger to help settle her stomach. Ginger is used to treat gastrointestinal ailments, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dyspepsia, and also diverse ailments, including arthritis, muscular aches, and fever (Lete & Alluέ, 2016).
