There is an endless amount of reasons why ethics are so important.  For starters, it is because there is so much opportunity for corruption, theft, behind the scene deals and agreements, and other shady behavior.  Secondly, it truly effects everyone (employees, shareholders, other companies that one does business with), the companies good standing and reputation; it is all interconnected.  An example of this would be the executive who is not transparent regarding deficiencies.  The workers, affiliated businesses and investors feel safe because they don't know of any.  Meanwhile, that executive just put their livelihoods on the line.  The deficiency gets discovered and now the company isnt trust worthy and the sequence of events get worse.
