There is probably no one best way for departments to try to assist officers with stress, so a comprehensive all around approach is probably the best. Most agencies have voluntary Employee Assistance Programs and also programs that come into play after a critical incident. Agencies will usually within 1-2 days have Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for officers to help them cope with a tragic event.
Most early studies of stress found female officers had additional stressors than male officers. Why would you think recent studies have found no significant differences?
