Corrections offers many different opportunities from maintenance to security to the medical side. If I was going to choose a career in corrections I would choose counseling. Reason why I chose this is based off of a moral standpoint. I believe that crime starts with behavior and decisions of the person. If I as a person can impact change in ones thinking to a more positive lightand help him or her to make better decisions, I believe I could over all make an impact on future crime rates. Some individuals come from broken household and never had someone to talk to or someone to guide them in a good directions. With counseling, that can change. I have a criminal justice background from the military. I was a cop in the military (security forces) and I saw that a lot of petty crimes committed was based off the household or the person was never really taught anything about decision making or they had mental health issues that were never addressed. Counselors are one of the most important positions in the corrections field, They help rehabilitate inmates during their stays in prison and help prepare them to transition out of jail. Counselors are the people that could potentially prevent the person from committing future crimes and could help reduce the correction issues of overcrowding and multiple offender inmates. They also help prevent suicides in the facility which will overall increase the morale of the facility itself.

If I were to choose a career in corrections, the position that I would pursue would be a Chaplain. I think that would be a career where I can intercede on their behalf to God. I’m sure there are some people that are in prison and they have not accepted the Lord. I would love to be the person who intercedes on their behalf. I am a mom and I know how much prayer works and how much prayer is needed. The Treatment and Program Staff are known are people that deliver programs to inmates such as education, vocational, substance abuse, psychological, and religious services. Seiter, R.P. 2017 “Chaplains are responsible for making religious worship opportunities available to inmates. They lead services, counsel inmates, and oversee services provided by contract ministries.” Seiter, R.P. 2017, p. 355 “However, chaplains generally do not work in churches; instead, the term is reserved for those who provide religious guidance and comfort in secular areas like hospitals, military bases, universities, prisons, and police departments.” Prison Chaplains do the same thing as therapist do, trying to get them to understand that they have done something wrong. The Chaplains listen and assist them in rehabilitating the prisoners. To become a Chaplain you could have your degree in Associates, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate in at Liberty University in Christian Counseling. “Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is –his good, pleasing and perfect will” Romans 12:2
