Subsequent responses to your peers or instructor should be a minimum of three complete sentences representing college-level English. Brief sentences with statements such as “I agree”, etc. will not be given credit. To be on the safe side, include several sentences for each post with additional questions or examples for your peers. Please be sure to check your work for grammar/spelling/punctuation/capitalization errors. Points will be deducted from your weekly discussion scores if these mistakes are repeated on a weekly basis.

Response:

Over the years I have had multiple encounters and situations where I've encountered new people and situations where they were a different culture. For example, at my previous job we all had different culture. Some of my coworkers were white, some were Hispanic like I was, and some were African American, and some were Haitian. Along with that I worked in a place that most of my coworkers were male. The interactions I had were different than an interaction that I would have with someone of the same culture or gender. One of these interactions was with two coworkers that were Haitian-Creole. The interaction I had with them was different from the one that they had with each other. We were talking to one another about our cultures and we had some similarities but it was mostly different They went on to talk about their Haitian culture which I found myself not being able to relate to and they started to talk in Creole which I found myself not able to understand and be a part of. Along with that their interaction with each other was different than with me due to what was acceptable in the culture. Another experience I encountered was with my boyfriend's family. My boyfriend's family is American and he and his mom are from Boca Raton and the rest of his family is from North Carolina. Typically the way they greet each other is by shaking each others hand. In Hispanic culture we typically go in for a hug or we kiss each other on the cheek where as the men shake each other's hand. When I met his mom's boyfriend he went for a handshake which caught me by surprise since I wasn't used to it since most people around me are Hispanic. Also the body language is different too. Hispanics have a tendency to speak with their hands and stand close to the other persons similar to the example given in the video. In these scenarios I would speak to the strangers in the room. What influenced these decisions was to interact with others and for me to have an idea of what is normal for them and get to know one another.
