Paper instructions:Writers must complete a 2,500+ word research paper.  The purpose of this assignment is twofold: to engage in the research process, and examine a particular historical event, problem, concept, or phenomenon in depth.  The topics are limited to your imagination but must relate to the course material in some way.  Remember, all topics must be cleared with me.  The paper will be no shorter than 2500 words (excluding the title page and bibliography [remember a bibliography is different from a works cited page]).  However, there is no penalty for going over the required page count.  

The research paper requires a MINIMUM of 5 scholarly sources (books, journals, ect.).  Only after those five sources are used can a student begin to use non .edu/.org websites to support their information.  Also remember, as a general rule you should have AT LEAST one in-text citation per page.

TOPIC:

The papers topic is on the dropping of the first nuclear weapon on Japan at the end of World War II. It must examine the bomb drop, reasons behind the decision, the public opinion after it happened, the lasting effects in Japan and how it affects our decisions on using nuclear weapons today. The bulk of the paper needs to address the reasons for dropping the bomb, the destruction it caused to the cites and the effects it has on our opinions today
