In your research paper, you will need to argue how your topic has impacted the industry, and how the industry can continue its growth by building on your topic.  

Questions to consider:

As you work on your research paper, you can use the following questions to help you start:

• What impact did your topic have on the music industry?
• Who did your topic impact most? 
• Who played a central role in your topic?
• Which experts should you consult/read to get the best understanding of your topic?
• Why would people praise and criticize your topic? 
• How did your topic impact the music industry when it first started/happened?
• How does your topic impact the music industry today? 
• What changes have been related to your topic?

REQUIREMENTS:

1. The Research Paper is a six to eight page essay--yes, this definitely needs to be a minimum of six full pages (all pages double-spaced).
2. All drafts and outlines of the essay must be typed (double-spaced) in 12 point Times New Roman font.
3. Each essay must be well-developed, which means that the essay will provide adequate supporting evidence from:
   1. AT LEAST five sources from research, three of which must be from the library databases (approximately 1000 words or 2 pages)
   2. Your own experience and knowledge           
4. All evidence (quotes, paraphrases, and summaries) MUST be cited properly using MLA format for both in-text and reference citations.
5. Each paragraph must have at least one quote from the text and/or research in addition to specific, concrete examples to illustrate your points. Quotes should be introduced with basic signal phrases (e.g. Kot states, Jones argues, etc.)
6. Your essay should have very limited use of the verb “to be” (is, am, are, was, were); please refer to the “Concise Sentences” handout.
