research
1. Carefully read through the Interpretative Strategies handout. Which critical concepts or theories seem most applicable to the writing you have done for your collection so far?
2. Select one critical concept or theory that you will use to interpret oneimage, object or space that you have already written on for formal or contextual analysis.
3. Research. In order to respond to the questions for developing the interpretative strategy, you will need to consult at least three scholarly sources. One of these must be a published book or article.
In 600+ words, write a careful interpretation of your visual selection incorporating the critical concept or theory that you have found to be appropriate to your selection. Begin by defining your strategy, based on the critical concept or theory, and explain how this strategy addresses the image, object or space that you have selected. Be sure to define the critical concept or theory, discuss the author(s) or thinker(s) who contributed to its formation, as well any terms necessary for its understanding (e.g. Benjamin and “aura” if you select authenticity).
5. Using parenthetical citations, e.g. (Smith, 95), cite your sources for direct quotations and for any new ideas that you learned.
