Subsequent responses to your peers or instructor should be a minimum of three complete sentences representing college-level English. Brief sentences with statements such as “I agree”, etc. will not be given credit. To be on the safe side, include several sentences for each post with additional questions or examples for your peers. Please be sure to check your work for grammar/spelling/punctuation/capitalization errors. Points will be deducted from your weekly discussion scores if these mistakes are repeated on a weekly basis.
Response:
The most recent situation I can think of is going to all of my new in-person classes this week. When I go to class I notice that there are more talkative people than quiet people. I see dozens of conversations going on at the same time, at the beginning, end and even during class. Personally, I am more introverted and reserved. I talk to people in a class here and there but mostly I notice that I really like to keep to myself. My entire family is the same way and it made we wonder if there is actually a cultural reasoning behind this behavior. My parents are from Southern India, and area known for its conservatism. I searched up whether Indian people are more extroverted than other cultures and it turns out that the opposite is often true. Societally, in India you are expected to be more reserved and to keep to yourself and your family. This is a common theme in countries that are more conservative. When I factor in my gender and sexuality, in general I believe that girls are raised to be more quiet and and to not take up space (literally, and socially). Even though there are many extroverted and outgoing women in america, I feel that the way I was raised in an Indian household, I was taught to be agreeable and to not attract attention. While i’m not as reserved around people I know well, I see traces of this upbringing when I’m out in public.
