M4,DB 1: The Teachings of Jesus (300 words)

Introduction See the corresponding assignment under "Lectures and Activities."

The Prompt Respond to the following questions in the discussion forum for this module located in the "Discussion Board" link in the "Communication" area of the course.

1. What was the Sermon on the Mount?

2. What are beatitudes and what was their purpose? Give an example of one of the beatitudes.

3. What is a parable? Choose one of the parables listed and briefly explain it.

Part B 300 words

introduction Before beginning this Discussion Board, you should have read the "Lecture and Activity" information entitled, "Basic Beliefs of Christianity," which explains in greater detail that Christianity teaches salvation is based solely on Jesus acting as the final and complete sacrifice for the sins of all people.

The Prompt

First, explain the two approaches to the holy (priestly and prophetic). This information can be found in your textbook (Chapter 2) and in the corresponding online lecture found in Module One. Then, based on this information, answer the following questions: do you think Christianity is priestly or prophetic? Why? Keep in mind that religions may have both priestly and prophetic elements, but will fall in one category or the other when it comes to reaching their highest goal which, in this case, is called salvation.

Resources

· "Basic Beliefs of Christianity," found in the "Lectures and Activities" section of Module Four.

· The information from your textbook concerning priestly and prophetic approaches to the Holy.
