Reflection Post

profileSJ21

Write, at minimum, a 500-word post addressing at least one of the following leading questions for this week's module. Meaningful and substantive contributions will require 1.) that you carefully read (and reflect on) the material, and 2.) that you think about the arguments, evidence, and interpretations presented in the paper.

1. Although Massey and his colleagues argue that no single theory (i.e., reason) can explain why people migrate. In your view, which one of the four theories that explain the initiation of migration comes very close to explaining why people migrate, and why?

2. Based on what Massey and his colleagues present in their paper, one of the ways the United States government can deal with high migration inflows from Nigeria is to go into Nigeria and fix Nigeria's youth unemployment challenges. Would you support such an approach to immigration control by the United States government? If yes, why? If no, why?

3. Thinking about the reasons that have been laid out in the paper to explain why migration perpetuates across time and space, why might one person's decision to migrate make it more likely that their family members, friends, or people from their community will migrate later?
