Step 1: Watch the Video

Watch the instructor's video

As you watch, pay close attention to:

• The difference between major supporting details and minor supporting details.

• How supporting details explain and clarify a main idea.

• How effective supporting details make body paragraphs more specific, convincing, and

engaging.

Step 2: Read the Article

Read the attached article: Road Rage (2015). In the article, the author states:

"There are, however, some steps everyone can take." Notice the use of the category word steps. The author then presents several specific steps that

drivers can take to reduce road rage.

Step 3: Select One Step

Choose one of the steps presented by the author. This selected step will serve as the major

supporting detail for your paragraph.

Step 4: Create Three Minor Supporting Details

Develop three original minor supporting details that further explain or clarify the step you

selected. Your supporting details should:

• Explain the step more thoroughly.

• Provide additional clarification or examples.

• Be logical, specific, and relevant.

• Demonstrate your own thinking rather than simply repeating the article.

Step 5: Write One Complete Body Paragraph

Using your selected step and the three supporting details you created, write one well-developed

body paragraph. Your paragraph should:

• Begin with the selected step as the major supporting detail.

• Include your three minor supporting details to develop the idea.

• Use smooth transitions between ideas.

• Maintain unity and coherence throughout the paragraph.

• Demonstrate correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
