Read some articles to answer some questions

1. Carleton College offers a number of tips for op-ed writers, (Links to an external site.) including A) "Track the News and Jump at Opportunities" and B) "Tell Readers Why They Should Care." How effectively do the authors of "Coronavirus shutdown offers opportunity to rethink Denver's priorities" and "Shake Shack, then Harvard: who's minding that $2.6 trillion?" follow Carleton's advice in A and B? Discuss each op-ed, and use evidence from the op-eds to support your position. 

2. Carleton also recommends (Links to an external site.): C) Don't Be Afraid of Personal Voice and D) Make Your Ending a Winner. How effectively do the authors of "Earth Day Reminds us to appreciate nature during uncertain times," "The summer of isolation is the time to replace your grass with water-friendly plants," "The NFL Draft Shows Just How Much America Needs Sports," and  "College Students Shouldn't Expect Tuition Refunds"  (Links to an external site.) use the personal voice and craft strong endings? Discuss three of these op-eds and use evidence from them to support your position. Note: As you brainstorm topics for your WP2, I recommend thinking about writing to the DU Clarion.

3. Carleton also recommends: (Links to an external site.) E) Use short sentences and short paragraphs, and F) Relax and have fun. Revise Frick's "Is Our Winter Break Simply Too Long?" (Links to an external site.) by completing the following:

• Improve the opening paragraph by creating a more enticing hook, adding snap and sizzle to her diction, and varying her paragraph and sentence lengths, all while staying true to her claim.
• Identify two places in the body of her op-ed where a one sentence paragraph would be rhetorically effective. Then write those one sentence paragraphs, with snap and sizzle as well.
