Talk to someone who is from a non-dominant, diverse group other than  your own. (If you are a member of a non-dominant, diverse group, you  cannot interview yourself!) Use the questions below as a guide to find  out more about their experiences.

a. When did you first realize that you were a person from a  non-dominant group (or a minority, person of color, person from a  diverse group)?

b. How did you feel you “fit in” to society when you realized you were not like the majority of people?

c. Describe at least one negative and one positive experience you attribute to being from a non-dominant group?         

d. What guidance could the person you interviewed offer to a future  HMSV professional on how to be prepared to work most effectively with  diverse populations?
