QUESTIONS

This is a multi-part assignment so please read the directions carefully and make sure that you finish each step. Everything needs to be typed up and posted as a response within the comments.

Step 1) I am going to give you a statement below and you're going to play a "game." Set a timer for 5 minutes. Within those 5 minutes I want you to look at the statement and generate as many questions as you can.

Rules: 1) Do not debate the quality of the question. If it's a question, you jot it down. 2) Don't try and debate the topic. 3) You're only thinking in terms of questions and not answers.

Generate as many questions as you can. Make sure that you think outside the box! You'll need a minimum of 8 questions.

Statement: "Torture is justified."

point of part 1: to get your brain accustomed to thinking in terms of questions because you're always asked to think in terms of answers.

Step 2) Once you've completed your 5 minutes with at least 10 questions, I want you to change all your open ended questions to closed ended and change all your closed ended questions to open ended.

Example:

Closed ended question: "is gun control effective?"

This is a closed question because the question leaves no room for interpretations. There are only 2 possible answers: yes or no.

If I were to change that.....

Open ended question: "why is gun control effective?"

Now all of a sudden I have a multitude of possible answers.

Make sense?

First go down your list and decide if each question is opened or closed by marking it with a "c" or "o."

Once you've done that work on rewording the question to change it to its opposite.

point of part 2: to illustrate how you phrase your question can yield entirely different answers. If you aren't getting the answers you want this is because you're not phrasing your questions correctly.

3) After you've completed step 2 then I want you to choose your top most 3 interesting question.

Point of part 3: to help you understand not all questions are equal. Some will be good questions and others you'll end up discarding and that's perfectly norma
