Read the article by Bigley and Roberts (2001). They identify four structural mechanisms of the ICS that lead to reliability in volatile environments. Describe each of these mechanisms. Based on your specific knowledge from reading about Hurricane Katrina, analyze one of these mechanisms and describe if it was successfully employed, failed, or was not implemented?

Read the Module I Commentary and the article -Kirby, E. (2010). A conceptual model for critical incident analysis. Journal of Critical Incident Analysis, 1(1), 3-16. http://jcia.aciajj.org/files/2010/10/Kirby-1.pdf 

Examine the definition for critical incidents used in this course and the article. How do the definitions differ?  Examine the conceptual model for the study of critical incidents advanced in the article.  What are the components of the model, which do you think is most important?  Why?
