For your Signature Assignment, choose a fictional family from your favorite book, TV series, movie, or similar source. It is important that the source provides significant information about each family member and their relationships. Once you have selected a source, place yourself in the role of therapist and select a battery of assessments for the family to complete as if this were their first session. Then, complete each assessment by placing yourself in the role of each family member. It is best to complete each assessment as each client before scoring any of the assessments. You do not need to submit any of the completed assessments; rather, use them for your own reference as you complete the Systemic Assessment Report. You must select and complete at least one of each of the following types of assessments: · Couple’s Assessment · Family Assessment · Needs Assessment · Risk Assessment For the couples and family assessments, you may use the assessments presented earlier in this course, or you may select a set of different instruments to use. If you choose to use a different couple’s and/or family assessment, you will need to request approval from your instructor before proceeding. The video offers a great deal of information about the family and their dynamics; however, if needed, you may creatively fill in any gaps of information as long as they are aligned with a family’s narrative. While addressing the risk assessment, you are not required to present a formal assessment but to outline specific warning signs as well a possible safety plan (including specific resources and advised actions) that you will develop with your client(s). The goal of this assignment is not to correctly guess how the family members might respond to the assessments, but to correctly and appropriately understand what picture is painted by the scores and information gathered during your assessment. You will be graded on your ability to intelligently discuss which assessments you chose and why, what you learned about the family from these assessments, and how this information might be helpful in working with this family in therapy. Use the following section headings for your Systemic Assessment report:
For the purposes of this evaluation, assume that you are a student therapist reporting to your licensed supervisor; therefore, your clinical recommendations are not the focus of this activity. The focus is to demonstrate your understand of which assessments you administered and how to use the results to support your conceptualization of the family’s functioning through your chosen theoretical lens. Please note that this is your Signature Assignment for the course, which accounts for 20% of your total course grade. This final assignment is designed to allow you to demonstrate your understanding and application of all the information covered in this course. Length: 5-9 pages References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources. The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations, and current APA standards, and adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy. |
