Cross, D. & Purvis, K. (2008). Is maternal deprivation the root of all evil? Avances en Psycologia Latinoamericana, 26(1), 66-81. Weaving spiritual applications throughout the article, the authors incorporate a plethora of references to substantiate that maltreatment has a direct connection to attachment disorders. They provide articulate and heavily supported reasoning, detailing the specific causes of maternal deprivation individually, and then incorporating them in a broader sense, to answer the article’s title in the affirmative. Feldman, R. (2007). Mother-infant synchrony and the development of moral orientation in childhood and adolescence: Direct and indirect mechanisms of developmental continuity. American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, 77(4), 582-597. http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/0002-9432.77.4.582 This longitudinal study tracked 31 Israeli children from ages 3 months to 13 years (infancy to adolescence). There were direct parallels noted between increased attachment/coherence and the child’s moral cognition, empathy development, and verbal IQ. Toddlers who were able to regulate their own behavior later proved to excel in lead lag structures and language skills.

Research Paper: Domestic Violence
Domestic violence has become a significant issue that requires more awareness and attention. I chose to explore this topic because it significantly impacts individuals and communities, regardless of culture, age, or social status, yet it continues to occur more every day in the modern world. It is important to understand the complex dynamics of this use, its underlying causes, and the best interventions. It has become urgent to address the issue because it hinders individual and societal growth and infringes upon the basic rights of individuals. Additionally, the topic reflects my desire to play a part in the well-being, safety, and empowerment of victims while focusing on eliminating the causes.
There is significant research into the gravity of domestic violence as a social concern in the modern wield. Domestic abuse encompasses psychological, emotional, and financial maltreatment, besides the widely recognized physical abuse, often resulting in long-lasting trauma. Domestic violence has ripple effects that go into various domains, including physical and mental health, economic stability, and intergenerational abuse cycles (Southern & Sullivan, 2021). These effects highlight the need to gain insight into creating an effective prevention strategy and support system for survivors to address the deeply rooted issue. Comment by Carol Staley Abney: So very true!
Additionally, this topic is important because it extends to understanding how children as affected by environments permeated by domestic violence. Children who experience domestic violence have been found to be at a higher risk of longstanding psychological and emotional trauma, perpetuating abuse cycles across generations (Liu & Xu, 2023). This affects their overall functioning at different levels of society, including at home and school. Domestic violence also affects children's identity and how they relate to others (Sharma & Borah, 2020). Therefore, it is a complex issue that needs attention to protect children's well-being and futures. Understanding this issue can be a great steppingstone toward ending domestic violence and empowering society toward better family structures. Comment by Carol Staley Abney: - Shares an important point relating to the importance of researching the topic. Comment by Carol Staley Abney: -The selected research topic, domestic violence is applicable to the human service field, is a social problem, and is approved. -Great use of peer reviewed journal articles to explore and support the justification for researching the topic.
