· Share a specific memory from your past. What specific emotions did you experience at that time?

· Should a medication that blocks memory be regulated? Or, should it be available as an over-the-counter drug?

Consider your views on the following life event. 

A young mother tells you that her child is experiencing a language delay, so she decided to place the child in from of the television for a couple of hours each day so the child can listen to more people talking. The mother says she makes sure the child is only watching educational shows.

A. How do you respond to this mother? Do you encourage her to continue to do this? Why or why not?

B. What alternative ideas can you provide this mother?

· 1) Before we start class, how would you define stress?  How do you know you are stressed?  How do you know others are stressed around you?

2) Of the seven different dimensions of health defined in the book, which ones do you think you are doing a good job on?  Which ones would you like to improve?  Why?

3) Complete the two lab assessments in the chapter, 1) "What causes you stress" and 2) "Why do some of your stressors result in a stress response"

What do you think about your results?  What was the activity like for you?

Chapter 2: 

1) What do you think about the differences between how men and women handle stress differently as described in the chapter?

2) The chapter describes a number of systems in our body.  Which of the systems have you felt stress have had a negative affect?  Are there specific symptoms that you recognize? 

3) Complete the lab assessment in the chapter: "What are your physiological reactions to stress".  What was that activity like for you?

· This tool will help you trace your family's medical history and become better informed about health conditions that may affect your own health.  You may need to contact a family member to obtain accurate information. You may also consider sharing this information with other family members once completed.  What was this assignment like for you to complete?

3) Complete the lab assessment "Why did you get sick as a result of stress"?  What was the activity like for you?

Chapter 4

1) The chapter describes the stressors of "the younger college student" and the "older college student".  Which one of these groups do you more identify with?  What stressors do you think are the same for both groups?  Which stressors do you think are different?

2) Are there any stressors that you experience as a college student that are not included in the chapter? 

3) Complete the self lab assessments,: 1)  "Budgeting While in School" and 2) "How Intimate Are Your Friendships".  Describe what it was like completing the assessments.
