Nancy Barile's 'Writing to Learn.'
Use the resources of this chapter, journal assignment, PowerPoint presentation, Nancy Barile's 'Writing to Lean' and perhaps do a bit of research to help you achieve success on this assignment. Length requirements - 3 - 5 pages for non fiction, 7 - 10 for fiction. Non fiction refers to writing that is more true, essays, educational assignments, story maps, etc. Fiction refers to creative efforts, making up a fantasy story like guess what, THE HOBBIT! Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
1 - Create a Story Map of Tolkein's novel, The Hobbit, by laying out key details of each chapter including plot, theme, conflict and resolution. Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
2 - Using the ideas of Barile's 'Writing to Learn,' include ten detailed assignments you would create to help students develop enhanced reading and writing skills. Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
3 - Create a PowerPoint Presentation for someone who has never read J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Include such story elements as characterization, plot, rising action, falling action, resolved and unresolved story tension, major themes of the novel, and a current film or television show to platform meaning for students. Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
4 - Write a fictional fantasy adventure story that contains all the elements of 'The Hobbit.' It should be about ten pages long and definitely be about a character who resists her or his destiny and what they learn about themselves and others from putting themselves out there.
5 - Watch an action adventure movie and compare and contrast the alike (categorical) features found in Tolkein's Hobbit to it. Please include an analysis of ideas, not merely a plot summary. Writing a comparative paper would mean writing in depth about the plots, themes, moments, characters in ways that bring the highlights of both mediums out fully. Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
6 - Interview five educators (elementary, secondary, college) about what their favorite novels are to teach. Ask them how they teach a novel and why they do what they do. If you do not receive enough information, do some research to round out knowledge about how to teach a novel well and why instructor literacy (reading and writing) is important for educators. Please be sure to reference all resources accurately including primary (The Primary) and secondary (critical or pedagogical) resources.
