There are already practices present in inner city African American communities that can be used to assist African Americans in overcoming obstacles and improving their lives and communities. On page 304, Letha See discusses how many professionals that work in this area strive to focus on the future of the African American children and families they work with in the inner city setting. In this process professionals assist the family in recognizing their own strengths and helping them to get the most out of the resources and tools they have. See argues that these particular practices help the professional empower the family that they are working with in order to help change take place in African American inner city communities.
