Without many people knowing it, we are  already transferring many of our lives into DC power.  If direct  current had won the war against alternating current, there is the  possibility that we may be further along then we are now.  To prove this  point, lets talk about where the world is currently heading.

Many items we use in our  everyday lives are already using AC-DC converters to run more  efficiently.  If these systems did not have to convert power, then they  would run even more efficiently.  This is due to the associated losses  that come with converting the power to DC.   Items such as household  appliance, LED lights, DC motors in our fans, TVs, cell phones, and  laptops all are available running off DC power through a converter.  The  efficiency discrepancy is to prominent to ignore.  “LED lights consume  about 15W as opposed to CFL, which consume 36W for comparable  luminescence. Ceiling fans with AC induction motors typically consume  70W, whereas an equivalent Brushless DC (BLDC) motor fan consumes only  30W (Rajaraman, 2016).”

This applies to larger scale  applications as well.  For example, the use of renewable energy, such  as solar power, is easier to use in DC form.  The batteries that are  charged by the solar panels are stored in batteries.  If our systems  where designed to run off DC power, there would be no loss in converting  to AC for power grid and home use.  Imagine the effectiveness of a  system if we were to shift to DC power lines.  All these applications  would be able to feed directly off of the system, and we would more cost  effectively be able to use alternative means to power that same system  more efficiently.
