I have a wide range of industrial and commercial electrical experience. From megger testing insulation on 750 MCM cables to installing gem boxes for outlets. Trying to nail down a specific component is tough. I currently work as an electrician at a healthcare facility but I was thinking of something I always wished I'd had worked with more.
At a previous employer one of our buildings had a busduct riser from the main service to the roof. Busduct is a series of flat copper of aluminum bars insulated from one another and ran inside a ventilated or totally enclosed housing (Schneider, 2018);
The dimensions in this image are of no consequence. These systems bolt together in sections and take the place of a typical conduit and cable run. It is basically designed to take up the least space possible.
In the building, the 277/480 V busduct began at the main switchgear and passed vertically through each electrical closet on each floor. In each closet a disconnect switch is plugged into the busduct. Although this is a switch in a horizontal section hopefully it helps to visualize (Schneider, 2018);
The switch feeds a panel for 277 V lighting and a transformer. The transformer secondary side supplies 120 V to panels for general use power.
Although this is a brand specific system, I believe the video helps to visualize the bars and how compact a busduct system is.
