Professor Eliud
Creating Expectations Through Communication
In this unit's studies, you learned about ways to communicate with children in the classroom. Some of the communications that we learned as "what to do" as an effective classroom manager.
Consider the techniques for communicating expectations that are not helpful (warnings, negative recognitions, threats, and put-downs). Which of these do you see most often in your school setting? Then, think about ways to intentionally create positive expectations (purposeful action, positive recognition, clarifying statements and questions, expectation cues, debriefing, and written expectations). Which of these do you see implemented by teachers at your school? As a teacher and leader, how could you promote more of these positive techniques?
