Professionalism Year One: Ethics Reflection
Students are expected to develop a sense of the scope and expectations of personal ethics, and a working definition of professionalism. Students should accomplish the following:
1. Attend the white coat ceremony
2. Commit to the Dental Student’s Pledge
3. Read and understand the School Code of Ethics
4. Read and understand the ADA Code of Ethics
5. Participate in all assigned school activities, learning assignments, classes, and seminars
6. Exhibit professional behavior appropriate for a first-year student.
Documentation: Students should write a two-page reflection of what you have learned about ethics in the first year of school. What is your personal definition of ethics? How would you rate the ethical standards of your classmates and others in the school, such as faculty? What are some of the ethical issues you associate with dissection of the human body? How have you developed ethically in the past year?
