- Symbol:
"La Ponderosa" is the name they have given the motorcycle and in this chapter is finally breaks down and they say their final goodbyes. What do you think the motorcycle symbolizes for the two travelers? - Metaphor:
“As each surge of water fell on to its flaming skeleton, the wood-and-adobe house shook.” Guevara often uses metaphors such as the “flaming skeleton” to his writing to add imagery for the reader. What effect do these frequent metaphors have on you as the reader? - Imagery:
This chapter, as with much of Guevara’s writing, is laced with imagery. There are sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that transport the reader into the scene. Provide examples of phrases from this chapter for each of the five senses.
