CONCLUSION
The legacies of these three regions include
stone columns, monumental sculpture, and the
use of fantastic animals in decorative programs.
Recovering the heritage of Nubia is an ongoing
project, in large part due to the interest of
twentieth- and twenty-first-century African
American scholars such as Harvard’s Henry Louis
Gates (2001). Interest in ancient Nubia, Egypt,
and Mesopotamia is driven in large part by what
these civilizations mean to people today.
