Port Access controls

Discussion Questions: Throughout Week 4 you have been exposed to several laws, initiatives and strategies that form a large portion of the maritime transportation security framework within the United States. Looking at the key initiatives such as SMART, SAFE Port, SVSS and others where do you see that the vulnerabilities still exist.  

Your forum original post is not meant to be a laundry list of items…rather I want your critical analysis in a narrative form – where are the vulnerabilities, what risk do they pose…AND who addresses them.  For example, the SAFE Port Act most notably strengthens port security in two key ways, by utilizing radiation and nuclear detection technology.  This innovative technology is used to inspect cargo without actually opening up containers to perform visual inspections, therefore creating a safer environment for Customs and port employees.
