Choose one of four topic sections from the West article The Progressive Movement and the Transformation of American Politics . From the West article, write/summarize a point-by-point comparison of what West states is the Founder’s view and what he notes is the Progressive view of the given topic, then write a conclusion based on what you conclude from your comparison. Your conclusion should include what you decide is the cost and benefit to liberty/ freedom of a government based on the progressive view of the topic and, in turn, the founder’s view. In my estimation, you should limit your essay to a maximum of 2 pages of good writing. Anything less than one and a half of a page is probably not going to be adequate for a good grade. You might use up to two paragraphs for the comparison and up to two for your conclusion/opinion about both views. I prefer your Essay to have 12-inch font, double spaced. Since this is a simple comparison opinion essay, you will not have to document anything. If you have written two pages, and need more space to wrap up your essay, I will let you go at maximum an extra half page to complete your analysis. I will run your essay through the college plagiarizing program. If more than 35% is plagiarized, you are given an automatic 0. Here are your choices:

1. From section 2, The Purpose of Government.

Write a point-by-point comparison of the Progressive view with the Founder’s view of the purpose of government. Then write your conclusion based on the instructions above.

2. From section 5, The Limits on Government and the Integrity of the Private Sphere

Write a point-by-point comparison of the Progressive view with the Founder’s view of the limits of government involvement in the private social and economic sphere. Then write your conclusion based on the instructions above.

3. Section 6, Domestic Policy

Write a point-by-point comparison of the Progressive view with the Founder’s view of the purpose of domestic policy. Then write your conclusion based on the instructions above.

4. Section 7 Foreign Policy

You will write a point-by-point comparison of the progressive view with the founder’s view of the theme you chose from the reading. Include one or two costs and benefits of both points and one or two implications of these costs and/or benefits for the average citizen. Then write your conclusion based on the instructions above.
