Format:

Papers will be two to three pages, double spaced with one inch margins.  Please ensure the font is set at 12-point Times New Roman.  Proper use of MLA, APA or Chicago (student’s choice) citation formatting will be required. 

Paper Topic:

This is a position paper designed for you to take a stance on a current policy issue in which there are differences in Federal and State policy.  As such, this paper requires you to demonstrate critical thinking and developing a logical argument.  Some current policy topics could include, but are not limited to:

1. Immigration Policy (DACA)
2. State Marijuana Laws (Medicinal or Recreational)
3. LGBQT Rights
4. Same-Sex Marriage Laws
5. Gun Control Laws
6. Affordable Care Act

You will be required to cite from two to four reputable sources, exclusive of your textbook.  You will use either MLA, APA or Chicago (student’s choice) citation methodology for this paper (we will discuss further in class).

To assist you in ensuring you are on the right track, you must submit paper topic, proposed thesis/stance, main points, and the counter-argument that you will address within the Canvas Assignment (example will be given in class) by November 9, 2020.
