Policy Evaluation and Recommendation Project
Policy analysis is intended to evaluate the impact of a specific public policy with careful attention to the political environment and other pertinent factors. This type of analysis is limited to the evaluation of past or current policies with particular attention to the characteristics of the policy. To effectively conduct the analysis, students should identify and analyze the policy’s origins, goals, target populations and other relevant stakeholders, the instruments used to implement the policy goals and the perceived or actual impact of the policy. A thorough evaluation consists of the following: executive summary, brief description of the policy, issues/problems associated with the policy, historical context, objectives of the solution, critique of policy response in meeting objectives, assessment/cost-benefit analysis, and conclusion about the problem and critique of the solution, and recommendations for policy and practice. The project should be at least 15pages (double-space). See rubric for details.
