Policy Analysis Paper (70 pts) & Annotated Bibliography (30 pts)
There are several pieces to this assignment. Pay attention to due dates and work on this paper throughout much of the semester. Papers are due to the instructor on the date of your presentation to the class.
Annotated Bibliography: DUE 11/24/2024
Policy Analysis Paper: Due 12/17/2024
The primary purpose of the paper is to demonstrate your ability to analyze social policy using the values and policy analysis framework(s) presented throughout this course. You need to identify a specific state or national policy (statute, act, rule, bill, judicial decision, or executive order) that addresses the current issue related to social work concerns. A statute, rule, executive or judicial order, or bill number will need to be cited. The depth of the analysis will be a key factor in grading. Depth can be achieved by thinking, reading, and rethinking about the topic over time.
Use at a minimum, 10 references, at least 6 from academic journals for your paper. Also required is a key informant interview. Find someone who is either involved in enacting this policy etc. or is affected by this policy. Use a personal interview to gain their opinion. The internet and mainstream
media will be a good place to learn about issues and start your inquiry, but extensive reliance on popular media is discouraged as these sources are not scholarly and are prone to inaccuracy and bias. When using the Internet, always consider the source. Scholarly journals, government sources, and other research reports will be most of your research. Begin your research early and consult the instructor and the reference librarian’s if you are concerned about accessing reliable sources. Your paper needs to be in APA style. Write your analysis using the outline handed out in class (Chapter 3 – Popple and Leighninger textbook). Your paper will be evaluated on how well you apply the analysis
framework, use the research to support your analysis, organization and writing ability, and use of APA
