Poetry

1.  You are to choose just one poem from the list and prepare an explication-analysis essay.  Minimum length 2.5 pages.  Follow all the usual formatting guidelines. If you use scholarly essays to support your arguments, I will consider awarding extra credit. 

One exception is that you can choose to pick two poems written by Anne Sexton that examine her work as a good example of confessional poetry.  "Sexton suffered from post-partum depression, and after the birth of her first daughter she suffered her first breakdown and was admitted to a neuropsychiatric hospital. Other institutionalizations followed. Sexton struggled with depression for the remainder of her life. She committed suicide at age 46.
