Benefits of evaluating the role of outcomes in practice change through research
Measuring the outcomes ensures the adoption of best practices that facilitate improvement in patient care and promote improved health outcomes (Teisberg et al., 2020). Positive results facilitate the successful implementation of the proposed change since they justify the cost-effectiveness and benefits associated with the consequences. Furthermore, measuring the role of products through research provides evidence of the effectiveness and impact of the proposed change in patient care and delivery of health services. Outcomes should align with the study goals and objectives, which provide measures to meet the intended improvement. Additionally, results predict the benefits of the change and some challenges in implementing it into clinical practice. Measuring the role of products through research can guide the data collection and analysis methods, which will help validate the reliability and credibility of the outcomes (Teisberg et al., 2020). Hereafter, results provide an evidence-based foundation for determining the change's effectiveness and guiding the policy implementation into clinical practice and patient care.
How you would evaluate the roles of outcomes through a change proposed from research findings
My evidence-based practice is based on determining the efficacy of telehealth services in improving access to health services among marginalized and underserved communities. The main outcomes are health literacy and healthcare access (Teisberg et al., 2020). Telehealth services can promote access to care among the underserved population by allowing remote consultation and interaction between the patient and their health providers. Therefore, if the research findings indicate improved health literacy and access to health services, they can be used in promoting the successful implementation of this change into clinical practice. Telehealth technology can be used in patient education, promoting health literacy and improving the tendency to seek medical assistance on the onset of disease symptoms. Community health facilities can also provide care in cases where physical examination is necessary since telehealth technology cannot achieve this. Improved access to health can promote better patient and health outcomes and improved quality of life. Henceforth, these outcomes can support the implementation of telehealth technologies and community health facilities into clinical practice.

Evaluation is the last step in the process of evidence-based practice (EBP), and it involves the reassessment of the results of the study to ensure that a desired outcome has been met through the implementation of an intervention (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2023). This is a crucial step, because it not only allows researchers to assess the impact of the intervention, but it will also guide them in determining any changes or adjustments that may need to be made for the future studies (Toney-Butler & Thayer, 2023). Therefore, evaluation is a critical step in determining the positive and negative effects of the research, which will then impact the way the interventions will be utilized in the real world.
From a broader perspective, it is important to note that the ultimate goal of health care and value-based care is to achieve the best outcomes for the lowest cost, thereby maximizing the value for the patients (Pantaleon, 2019). Under this idea of value-based care, the true measure of quality is the outcomes that matter to patients and lead to an improvement in their health outcomes (Pantaleon, 2019). Consequently, when outcomes are measured and reported, it facilitates the improvement and adoption of best practices, which ultimately results in improving patient outcomes and quality of care (Pantaleon, 2019). Furthermore, the aim of measuring outcomes also includes guiding clinical decision-making, initiating improvement interventions, monitoring, benchmarking, scientific research, and public attitudes and awareness of a healthcare issue (Kampstra et al., 2018). Thus, outcome evaluation is an important step toward improvement in healthcare. According to Adams and Neville (2020), outcomes evaluation is a process in which the merit, worth, and significance of a program, project, or policy are defined. As a result, outcomes evaluation is crucial in the success and longevity of a program, since proving its worth will contribute to the security of funding and resources for those programs (Adams & Neville, 2020).
There are several different methods to evaluate the outcomes of a study. For example, experimental and statistical research designs tend to utilize techniques such as statistical modeling, longitudinal analysis, and analysis of distribution in order to establish an association between a research and the outcomes (Reed et al., 2021). For my Capstone project, for instance, the outcomes of a nurse-led heart failure education will be evaluated by measuring the 30-day readmission rates and the patient quality of life through the scores on the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (Clements, 2022). Another method to evaluate outcomes is the evidence synthesis approach, which may utilize approaches such as meta-analysis, narrative synthesis, and systematic reviews (Reed et al., 2021). These are but a few ways to prove a causation relationship between research and the outcomes. Whichever method is utilized, a strong outcome evaluation is crucial in the process of translating research to practice.
