Lesson Seven Discussion Question:  Article III of the U.S. Constitution states that when a vacancy occurs on the U.S. Supreme Court the president shall nominate a qualified individual to fill that vacancy subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the U.S. Senate.   Discuss in some detail each of the several steps taken within the White House to select a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court and the several steps taken in the U.S. Senate that may result in confirmation or rejection of a nominee to the high court. In writing your response do some research and include information on examples of at least three supreme court nominees that were confirmed or were not confirms in the past fifty years, explain the political reasons why they were acceptable or nor acceptable.
