Professional Development Plan (PDP)

This assignment allows students to evaluate their areas for growth toward cultural competency and then to create individualized goals and actions to increase competency. Additionally, as part of the plan, students will complete one media summary and one cultural immersion experience.

This assignment is broken down into two main parts: Rough Draft (Due Unit 3), and Final PDP (Due Unit 6). After completing the Rough Draft, participating in a cultural immersion experience, and interacting with media related to your chosen topic, you will have a chance to reflect upon your learning over the course of the class. You will begin by completing another self- assessment. Then, you will have an opportunity to reflect upon the goals you outlined in your Initial Plan. Please address the following questions in a 3-5 page paper:

1. Did you meet your goals? If not, why not?
2. How was the process of stretching your comfort zone to increase your multicultural competence?
3. What was the best part of engaging in this growth and learning over the course? What was most challenging for you?

Finally, you are asked to describe five goals for continued professional and personal development as a multicultural counselor. Include the following information with your goals:

1. Why did you choose this goal?
2. How does this goal connect to increasing multicultural competency?
3. What is your action plan for achieving this goal?
