Discussion 2 (Javier)
Feeding America and Catholic Charities are among the top ten nonprofit organizations that received the most funding in 2020 (Siddiqui et al., nd). Feeding America is a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries, and local meal programs. They aim to help people get the necessary food and resources to thrive. To achieve this, they focus on getting nutritious food to communities by sourcing food donations and advocating for policies that end hunger (Feeding America, 2024). One of their goals is to ensure everyone can get the food they need with respect and dignity. They are part of a nationwide network of over 200 food banks and 60,000 meal programs so people can access food without judgment or stigma. According to their Annual Report., individuals facing hunger accessed 5.3 billion meals (Feeding America, 2024). The report also breaks down their public support and revenue. Fundraising brought in $378,409 and donated goods and services $4,529,597 for a 2023 total public support of $4,908,006 (p.6). Catholic Charities is also a network of organizations that provides services to people in need, regardless of their faith. Their mission is to strengthen the lives of all in need by giving help that empowers and hope that lasts. They are guided by Catholic social and moral teaching (Catholic Charities, 2024). One of their goals is to build a culture of communal care responsive to the needs of those affected by socio-economic disadvantages. They try to provide compassionate, competent, professional services to strengthen individuals, families, and communities. According to the organization's 2022 Annual Report., they served 15 million people with the help of 215,000 volunteers. The annual report also highlights, "Through the generosity of an anonymous CCUSA donor, 55,000 humanitarian kits were delivered at the start of winter to 54 agencies in 33 states" (p. 5).

Discussion 1 (Janise) The two organizations I chose that receive grants are Goodwill Industries and Northwest Harvest
Discuss the Purpose, Goal, and Related Outcome
1. Goodwill Industries- The mission of this organization is to provide free career counseling, skills training, and resume prep that helps those who are seeking a job. This organization also provides jobs to individuals who have disabilities, mental health problems, and who suffer from homelessness. Every single day more than 300 individuals find a job or are employed through goodwill industries with their specialized training programs. The outcomes are astounding, over 2.1 million people received services from Goodwill to grow their careers and other support-related services, and 128,999 found employment through services provided by local Goodwill Industries (Goodwill Industries,2022).
1. Northwest Harvest- The mission of this organization is to secure food for individuals and families suffering from food insecurities. The mission statement for this organization is that nutritious food is a human right. Being able to provide healthy food is where it begins, there is much-needed help to remove systemic inequities that create the barriers that cause healthy food insecurities. This organization has many goals to stop the barriers that cause the food insecurities that individuals and families suffer from. One of the goals and related outcomes would be their community markets. The one in Yakima County, which was just built this year, helps so many families and individuals with food insecurities throughout Yakima County (Northwest Harvest/ Fruitvale Market, 2023). Their slogan is building dignity while serving the community. This market is a healthy food option for our Yakima County demographics, with a variety of fresh produce, proteins/meats, ready-to-eat foods, pantry staples, and more. Customers shop at Fruitvale just as they would at any other grocery store, there is no need to produce an ID or provide demographic details, or income to use this market.
