what is family?

How does your philosophical position on Perception and Truth affect your perspective on your chosen topic?  (Some of you may find it easier to work "backwards" on this process:  What is your personal opinion on your chosen topic, and what does your opinion reflect about your basic underlying assumptions regarding Perception and Truth?)
